Zoo tells the story of a tired outdated clown named Craig who laments over a past love.
I was hired on ZOO in October of 2015 and worked vigorously on this project until February of 2016. Working hand in hand with the production designer, director, cinematographer, actor, and art team I was able to achieve my goal of designing the visual aesthetic of Craig, the main character.
Below you can see selects from my production design concept book I made when applying for the set.

Ultimately, I decided it would be interesting if the clown archetype Craig's design would be based on reflected the emotional state in his life. In his more joyful youth, Craig would resemble a Harlequin, while his dreary and depressing present would take after a Pierrot.

A production still of Craig's bedroom. Around the room you can spot his discarded clown attire, various swan paintings, and an old VCR player and TV. Everything you see in this picture was designed by myself and my art team.

A production still of myself adjusting Craig's clown makeup between takes.

Craig's clothes are styled after that of the Harlequin while Anna's resemble that of Columbina. In Commedia dell'arte these two archetypes often fall in love.
